Difference between Social Denomination and Business Name

One of the most important things when starting a business is the name of it. But when is the time to go to register the name of your company, they will ask you for your Social Denomination and Business Name.

Thats the moment we ask ourselves. Is there a difference?

Within orthodox and classical doctrine about Commercial law consider that Business Name and Social Denomination are quite differents. Actually, the business name is what exactly the name of the company formed by one or more business owners names and this is the one that legaly appears in contracts and other relevant documents.

While the social denomination focuses on the company's goals and the name whith whom it will be kwnow among the public. In other words, it's the business' brand you have to position with in the market.

Let's asume that I have expirience designing pieces of furniture and I, with some friends, want to start a melamine furniture shop. The business name could be the next one:

Matt Johnson and Associates Inc.

However, if we want our costumers to know what we exactly do, the social denomination should be something like this:

Woodworks Furniture

Any kind of commercial society should work in the same way. So don't worry if these terms are alike. Each one of them has its own objetive but dot not forget to register your social denomination or someone else will do it and you'll loose the brand you have worked so much on.
